Enthalpy RECUBOX® OPEN ERV 03/100 – compact heat recovery box for low suspended ceilings

The enthalpy RECUBOX® OPEN ERV 03/100 is the smallest enthalpy RECUBOX® with a service door and integrated M5 class filters. It is a compact, extremely durable, and hygienically clean cased heat recovery exchanger designed for modern modular air heat recovery.

Unlike a standard heat recovery exchanger, the enthalpy variant can transfer not only heat but also a portion of the moisture from the exhaust air back into the supplied fresh air. The result is a more comfortable indoor environment, especially during the winter season when indoor air is often too dry.

The OPEN version is designed for easy service access, simple removal of the exchanger, and the possibility of regular inspection, cleaning, and replacement of the filter fabric.

Thanks to its exceptionally small dimensions of 441 × 441 × 165 mm, it is the ideal solution for low suspended ceilings, small apartments, tiny house projects, toilets, sanitary facilities, technical rooms with limited space, and decentralized HVAC systems.

The height of only 165 mm allows installation even where classic heat recovery units simply cannot be used.

Main parameters:

  • volume flow up to 140 m³/h,
  • heat recovery efficiency up to 95%, and moisture up to 75%,
  • construction height only 165 mm,
  • integrated M5 filters,
  • low pressure drops,
  • quiet operation,
  • suitable even for very low suspended ceilings.

Each RECUBOX® is created as an honestly crafted technical product – with an emphasis on precision, tightness, long service life, and the ability to adapt to a specific installation.

Why choose enthalpy heat recovery?

An enthalpy exchanger does not create moisture, but it can return a portion of the moisture from the exhaust air back into the interior. This helps mitigate excessive drying of the indoor air during the heating season.

In normal operation, indoor humidity will not increase immediately. The enthalpy exchanger works gradually – moisture is returned continuously, and the final effect depends on the specific house, the ventilation regime, the outdoor temperature, the humidity of the exhaust air, and the absorbency of building materials.

The practical result is a more pleasant indoor climate, less feeling of dry air, higher living comfort, and at the same time maintaining a hygienic air exchange.

Tightness and service access

The tightness of the casing is crucial for efficient heat recovery. RECUBOX® is equipped with massive adjustable buckles that allow you to finely tune the pressure of the lid against the seal. As a result, the unit does not suck in false air and operates with the maximum possible efficiency.
In the uninsulated version of RECUBOX®, the sealing and attachment of the lid are handled using screws and blind rivet nuts instead of buckles.

A choice of three enthalpy exchangers

The enthalpy RECUBOX® OPEN ERV 03/100 can be equipped with three types of enthalpy counter-flow exchangers.

Each of the exchangers offers different technology, structural design, and price/performance ratio. Thanks to this, the RECUBOX® can be adapted to specific project requirements – from an economic solution to top-tier METALPIC technology.

The choice of the exchanger is made during the ordering process.

Insulation and double-skin design

Double-skin design RECUBOX

The RECUBOX® can be ordered in several insulation variants:

  • without thermal insulation,
  • with internal insulation of synthetic rubber 19 mm thick,
  • or with external 30 mm or 50 mm insulation.

In the double-skin version, the insulation is hermetically sealed between two casings. In addition to the insulator itself, another robust polypropylene casing is created.

The result is a very durable construction, stable in the long term, and suitable for even the more demanding technical spaces.

Recommended fans

RECUBOX® OPEN HRV 03/100 is intended for use with external duct fans.

For optimal performance, we recommend fans with similar parameters as:

The fans are not located inside the unit. The Enthalpy RECUBOX® OPEN HRV 03/100 is not a VENT-READY design.

AFL EC Constant Flow fan

Possibility to order AFL EC CONSTANT FLOW fans

For the RECUBOX® OPEN HRV 03/100, it is also possible to supply a duct casing for mounting AFL EC CONSTANT FLOW fans to order.

AFL EC CONSTANT FLOW fans for RECUBOX®

A huge advantage of the CONSTANT FLOW technology is the ability of the fans to automatically respond to changes in pressure drops in the system and adjust the speed so that a stable air flow is maintained in the long term.

In addition, the fans are very suitable for smart homes – thanks to the 0–10 V control, they can be easily connected to, for example, Loxone, Home Assistant, and other intelligent systems.

System regulation and control

The regulation and control of the RECUBOX® can be handled in many ways depending on the type of fans used and the requirements of the specific installation.

A great advantage of the modular system is that you are not bound to one specific control. The control can be designed simply for undemanding applications, or as part of a smart home or advanced ventilation system.

AC fans

Simple and economical control for undemanding applications.

For AC fans, you can use, for example, control via a timer clock in the style of 0/1 – on / off.

The operation of the fans can also be regulated using triac regulators.

EC fans

Modern, economical, and very well controllable solution.

If you use EC fans, their performance can be continuously controlled via a DC 0–10 V signal.

For controlling EC fans, you can use, for example, our RekupeX REX EC controller:

REX EC – controller for heat recovery sets with EC fans

It is also possible to use another EC controller or a direct connection to a smart home, such as Loxone or Home Assistant.

100% BY-PASS

RECUBOX® can also be supplied in a variant with a 100% mechanical BY-PASS.

This system closes the passage of fresh air through the exchanger in an instant, and at the same time opens a bypass channel behind the exchanger.

The advantage is that even with an active BY-PASS, the air remains filtered by the same filter as during normal operation through the exchanger.

Final dimensions of the version with BY-PASS

The integrated 100% BY-PASS is located behind the exchanger and creates a separate bypass channel for the supply of fresh air.

For versions with an integrated BY-PASS, it is therefore necessary to take into account an increase in the final dimensions of the RECUBOX®. The depth of the unit increases by approximately the dimension of the connecting flange, and depending on the specific configuration, the width of the unit may also increase.

The final dimension of the RECUBOX® with an integrated 100% BY-PASS always depends on the selected variant of the spigots, the size of the connecting flanges, the orientation of the unit, and the specific installation requirement.

BY-PASS control

The control of the BY-PASS is handled via a DN14 shaft, which is brought out of the RECUBOX® to its outer wall.

In the basic version, it is equipped with a manual control handle, which can be easily replaced with a servomotor. This is anchored with a screw into an installation plate fixed with four metric screws.

Integrated 100% BY-PASS RECUBOX

What is the BY-PASS used for?

The BY-PASS in the RECUBOX® serves to allow the air in certain situations to bypass the heat recovery exchanger without transferring heat.

It is most often used in the summer: if it is cooler outside at night than inside the house, the heat recovery opens the BY-PASS and the cool outdoor air flows directly into the interior without being heated by the exhaust air. Thanks to this, natural night cooling of the building can occur, and with filtered air, which is important e.g. for allergy sufferers.

The second important use is the protection of the exchanger against freezing. At very low outdoor temperatures, the control system can temporarily open the BY-PASS, which defrosts the exchanger and prevents damage to it.

Simply put: The BY-PASS is a "bypass" of the heat recovery exchanger that allows intelligent control of when heat should be transferred and when not.

Thanks to the modular concept of the RECUBOX®, you can choose exactly the level of control your project needs – from simple on/off switching to fully integrated control in a smart home.
